Irrigation

Irrigation
  1. Selects the designatied solution
  2. Determines the appropriate temperature of solution when neccessary
  3. Positions the patient to facilitate irrigation
  4. Verifies the correct placement of the tube
    • if a nasogastric tube by aspirating gastric content and
    • if a nasogastric tube by instilling 10-20 cc of air into stomach while auscultating (5 cc for children under 2 yearsof age
  5. Instills the solution into the designated area
  6. Controls the rate of flow of the solution
  7. Postions the receptacle for the return flow
  8. Records the kind of irrigationg solution used
  9. Recourds the amount of irrigation solution used
